Write Track Media Automates Election Night at the Associated Press (New York, NY) – MILFORD, Pennsylvania – November 9, 2000 – This year, when the Associated Press was looking for a way to parse and build live National Election result graphics on Election night, Write Track Media and AppleScript won their vote. On Tuesday, November 7, Write Track Media's AppleScript solutions helped the Associated Press streamline the process of converting cryptic election data into easily handled tables that were placed into Graphics Files and sent to their web site.
Throughout the night, the Associated Press ran data file after data file through an AppleScript based solution. The script was built modularly allowing for the placement of election data into one of several different templates, each representing a single race – all at the click of a button. Once the process was started, AppleScript parsed the data, calculated percentages, figured out which House, Senate, Governor, and Presidential candidates were in the lead, and populated the graphics with the data using PreFab Player. This automated solution allowed the Associated Press to provide their members with accurate and timely election results.
"The script prevailed and cut our graphic creation time down considerably .Write Track Media was extremely knowledgeable, creative and easy to work with throughout the process of building the script to our specifications."
- Jodie Factor, Associated Press
Once the graphics were built, they were sent to myFactory® for further processing. myFactory is Write Track Media's industrial strength AppleScript–based solution that can turn any electronic workflow into a high–tech automated assembly line. myFactory™ converted the Election data graphics into various file formats, built a web page complete with a thumbnail of the graphic and uploaded them to the Associated Press web site. For each graphic, the entire process took only a few minutes.
Write Track Media was asked to return to automate election night again in 2002. Read the Press Release.
